Owensboro Public Schools are welcoming a new leader after outgoing superintendent Dr. Larry Vick's retirement became official.
Later today, Dr. Nick Brake will report to the OPS Central Office on Griffith Avenue for his first official day as the new superintendent of Owensboro Public Schools.
Brake was chosen to replace Dr. Vick in may after a multiple-month hiring process.
He's actually returning to the field of education after serving as president and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation for the past seven years.
Dr. Brake began his teaching career back in 1991 at Daviess County High School.
After leaving the district in 2002, he joined Owensboro Community and Technical College's administrative team.
Brake and his wife have two children who are students in the Owensboro Public Schools system.
He says he's looking forward to working with the dedicated staff within the district.
After accepting his new position, the EDC began the search to replace Dr. Brake.
The organization says that it's received 62 applications for his former position.
The search process now moves to the screening phase.
We'll keep you updated as everything moves along.
