Skeletal remains discovered in Hopkins Co.

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Hopkins County Sheriff confirms to 14 News that skeletal remains have been discovered in the county.

Officials say the remains were found in a country area near Madisonville on Saturday.

Hopkins County Sheriff Frank Latham says they got a call from a local property owner Saturday around noon. The owner told deputies that he was walking along the stream that cuts through his yard when he saw what appeared to be skeletal remains washed up along the bank.

Sheriff Latham say the remains have been turned over to the medical examiner. He plans on examining the remains on Monday. 

Officials say they aren't sure at this time if the remains are human or animal.

    A lot of public pools around the Tri-State are closed right now for the winter season. On Friday, the Newburgh Town Council made an announcement that the Newburgh Community Pool will not be reopening - partly due to revenue.
