Displaced residents still need Red Cross help

NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) - Newburgh fire officials say out of 16 residents, six still need Red Cross help after being displaced by a fire. They say the investigation into that fire is ongoing.

It began Sunday morning at the Fernwood Apartment Complex on Newburgh Heights Drive. Fire personnel say the blaze, along with the hot weather, forced them to rotate several firefighters in and out of the building to avoid heat exhaustion.

They say eight apartment units were affected by the fire with two suffering extensive damage.

Four units evacuated Sunday were opened back up Wednesday. No one was seriously hurt.
