Evansville 5th grader, DeSean Smith, is being honored for saving the life of a fellow Vogel Elementary School student.
Evansville police say on December 5 of last year, Smith ran from his post as a School Safety Patrol member to pull a 7 year old girl from the path of an oncoming car.
The car was traveling at 25 miles per hour, and was only 20 feet away from the crosswalk where the girl was walking.
DeSean is one of 8 students nationwide to receive the AAA Lifesaving Medal this year.
He will receive it in a ceremony presented by the Evansville Police Department, 10 am, June 28th.
The award was first handed out in 1949. DeSean joins 407 students who have received the award in years past.
