Evansville is one step closer to having a new sports complex.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced a site for the huge project.
After a years worth of homework, the CVB chose a lot near the Goebel Soccer Complex as the site for the proposed sports complex. They approved the purchase agreement for over 95 acres in the southwest corner of the complex on North Green River Road.
The price for the complex is $1.35-million and it's still not a done deal. The Vanderburgh County Council must sign off and then the next 240 days will be spent going through inspections, government and environmental processes.
By then, if its not deemed a suitable location, the sell will keep $15,000 so there's some risk associated with the decision. Tourism Director Bob Warren says they're comfortable with that and he thinks that the decision is just another positive step for the Tri-State's economy.
"Tropicana Evansville, it being launched, is the future of sports in our community," says Warren. "These are all things that drive economy. We're moving in the right direction for the right reasons and I'm very proud of Evansville and the leadership right now."
The CVB has already engaged residents of the nearby keystone subdivision.
Those discussions will be ongoing as the project unfolds.
