An SUV hit two parked vehicles, circled the parking lot and then crashed into a Longview business on Wednesday morning.
A grey Jeep SUV, driven by 79-year-old Clarence Barnes, Jr., wrecked into Rent-A-Center on Loop 281 near Gilmer Road in Longview.
According to witnesses, the driver first backed out of a parking spot near the front of the store and then slammed onto the accelerator, crashing into two other parked vehicles. At least one of these vehicles was occupied at the time of impact.
The SUV never stopped after crashing into the parked cars. The driver continued accelerating away from Rent-A-Center, but then made a circle in the parking lot and drove back towards the store.
The driver never tapped the brakes as the SUV barreled into the central brick pillar of the store front and through the front windows.
Longview Fire Department say that the SUV caused major structural damage, but that they were able to stabilize the over-hang above the sidewalk in front of the store. The Rent-A-Center district manager says that the store will remain open.
The condition of the driver is not known at this time. A KLTV reporter is on the scene and we will have more details as they become available.
