Evansville Police Detective Nathan Schroer is back home in Evansville, recovering from leukemia for the second time.

Hundreds of cyclists took part in a motorcycle benefit ride for him on Sunday. Organizers collected donations and sold T-shirts and wrist-bands, with all the money going directly to Schroer's family.

14 News is told his recent round of treatments was ineffective, but by some miracle, he is practically in remission.

"He did a blood test and his count was three. I believe it was like one or two percent. It has to be below three to show that he's in remission," EPD Detective Brad Evrard says.

Schroer's next step is to have his bone marrow tested to confirm whether or not he's in remission.
