Pence slowly putting stamp on Ind., GOP

Posted: Updated:

Gov. Mike Pence is slowly taking the reins of the state and putting in place his vision of government.

Pence's staff announced new priorities for state agencies last week and the new governor will soon pick new leadership for the Indiana Republican Party.

Plans to assess infant mortality rates, levels of youth smoking and obesity and employment among Indiana's veterans may sound mundane, but they mark Pence directing how state government should operate.

It follows months of carryover from former Gov. Mitch Daniels and a few stumbles. The Pence team slowly trickled out its first-year legislative agenda with some confusion earlier this year.

And a handful of agency heads who stayed on post-Daniels have left state government and rejoined their former boss at Purdue University.
