Indiana's Lt. Governor stops in on The Landing project

Indiana's Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann brings her listen and learn tour to Posey County.

While in Posey County, Lt. Governor Ellspermann met with elected officials, business and agricultural leaders to discuss the ways in which the state can better serve them.

Ellspermann also stopped by the Riverfront Landing project in Mt. Vernon to check out the progress.

The Landing, currently under construction, will include 46 affordable senior apartments for people 55 and over. It will also have six market rate condos, two three-bedroom units and four two-bedroom units. The ground floor will be made up of commercial space, 8,000 square feet of it, and housing units.

All of the tenants, no matter where they are in the building, will have access to a beautiful view, either from their window or from the roof top terrace.

"Well, The Landing is a great example of the public private partnership where we've had several agencies working with the local community to develop a tremendous housing opportunity and retail unit for Mt. Vernon," Ellspermann says.

"We've already had interest from several individuals on the market rate units in the building and then the we've also had interest from two or three different possible tenants for the retail space," says Josh Palmer, the project's architect.

A local law firm and a restaurant have already expressed interest in moving their businesses into The Landing.

It is expected to be completed by December 31 of this year and Palmer says that they are on schedule, maybe even ahead.
