Search is on for who shot and killed a Henderson County horse

Kentucky state police are looking for the person who shot and killed a horse in Henderson County.

Troopers say it happened in the 2100 block of Elm street in Zion.  

A neighbor, Ralph Dunn, tells us that the owner found the horse shot dead near his home. He tells us the horse had "three gunshots to his side. Clean through."

The neighbor also says he and his son heard 3 gun shots Wednesday night.

He says they didn't think much of it until the gruesome discovery early Thursday evening.

Dunn says just after 5 P.M. he came upon the horse's owner at the top of a gravel road. "We were just working on the 4-wheeler and just came up on it. It's pretty horrific."

Kentucky state police have begun an investigation.

The killing of a horse is a misdemeanor in Kentucky, punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a $250 fine.
