Splash around and learn about safe swimming today in O'boro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - You're invited to stop by Combest Pool in Owensboro for a Safety Swim Day with the Marlins Swim Team and city pool lifeguards.

The pool's located on McJohnson Avenue right by the Parks Department.

Everything's getting started at 9 a.m.

There will be free swim lessons, water safety tips, free swim time, and much more.

The lifeguards and members of the Marlins Swim Team say it's important for everyone to learn how to swim.

They explain that 10 people drown every day in the United States.

It's the second leading cause of childhood accidental deaths for children under the age of 14.

Informational booths will be set up at the event if you'd like to learn more about staying safe in and near the water.

Everything runs until 11 a.m. and if you attend, there will be a $5 discount if you sign up for swim lessons at Combest or Cravens Pool.

Organizers say they want to help make everyone a safe swimmer as pool season kicks into high gear.
