In Haubstadt, residents and local businesses were preparing for their three day Sommerfest festival, a charitable event that the town looks forward to every year.
The event began at 5 o'clock today. The rides and the food booths were the first attractions to open. Jeremy Overton, the president of Sommerfest incorporated, says he expects 15,000 people to attend the event over the next three days.
Haubstadt's Sommerfest will feature a beer garden from six to midnight and live music from seven to midnight on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Unlike in recent years, the proceeds from this Sommerfest will go towards the new Haubstadt library.
"This year, we have a really big project associated with the new library," says Overton. "a few years ago, we donated $50,000 to purchase the property that the library is on and, this year, we will be raising money for furnishings, for technology, and also for landscaping around the library when it is completed in the fall."
The Haubstadt community is celebrating its 47th Sommerfest. The event will end at midnight on Saturday.
