Henderson County summer schoolers took a break from the books on Thursday for some afternoon fun.
They called in the Henderson Fire Department to help out with a slip-n-slide. It's part of the 21st Century Summer Program.
Organizers say that it's a nice change of pace, because the camp is book-oriented. They say studies show kids tend to forget things they learn in the school year, so this summer camp is meant to help put the kids ahead of the curve.
"Even the bet kids will go into next fall a little behind, just because they've been out of school for a couple weeks," says Steve Treece. "The purpose of this program is to keep the two school years tied together, so when these kids go in they are not as far behind as the other kids."
The 21st Century Summer Program continues through the end of this month.
