Storms destroy summer social booths, volunteers work to get it back on its feet

Monday night's storms slammed the Good Shepherd's Summer Social, destroying almost all of the booths.

But church members worked through the day on Tuesday to get the event up and running again.

The good shepherd parking lot was abuzz Tuesday morning.

"We're getting all the wood this morning and we're going to fab everything up," says George Flemming

Just last only two of the kid booths, which will host kid games, were left standing.

"It was a wreck. All the booths were torn down from the rain and the wind. Then there was about 50 or more people here helping to tear it apart and really get on the ball," Flemming says.

"It was extremely touching. I wanted to cry when I saw everything go down, but I wanted to cry even more when I saw how many people came out so quickly," says Karen Lively.

That help continued to come Tuesday morning, as church members and volunteers sawed, bolted and drilled to remake each of the booths.

"We have to put the wire on the top and put all the booths together, put wire on top, get the tarp back on," Flemming says.

The group still has a ways to go, but they're hoping it will be buzzing again in time for the summer social.

The summer social starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.
