Arts group seeks proposals for Dresser sculpture

A western Indiana arts group is searching for an artist to create a sculpture honoring the author of Indiana's state song.

Wabash Valley Art Spaces issued a request for qualifications for the project honoring Terre Haute native Paul Dresser. The sculpture will be located in Fairbanks Park near the home where Dresser was born.

The Tribune-Star reports artists must submit images of their past work by July 17. Art Spaces will select up to five finalists in August and meet with them in September.

Finalists will develop a model and final proposal. Art Spaces hopes to select an artist in November.

The project is expected to cost $85,000 and be completed by June 2014.
