Several public hearings focusing on proposed rate increases by Big Rivers Electric are happening today in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Public Service Commission is hosting these meetings, which will take place in Henderson and Owensboro.
At the hearings, utility customers will have the chance to voice their opinions on proposed rate hikes.
That could mean an initial increase of over 20%.
Big Rivers says that another potentially higher increase is set for early next year.
The company proposed these rate hikes after losing a lot of its consumer base earlier this year.
At 1 p.m., a hearing will take place in the auditorium at South Middle School in Henderson.
If you aren't able to make it to that one, another's happening in Owensboro at 5:30 p.m.
That one will be held at Owensboro Community and Technical College in the Advanced Technology Center.
The group called Fair Rates Kentucky has already voiced its opposition to these hikes.
It's made up of residential and business customers who want to pay fair and reasonable electricity rates.
The group says that it's worried about how "the little guy" could be affected by the changes.
