Jehovah's Witness convention heading downtown this weekend

Posted: Updated:

A big group of Jehovah's Witnesses are making their annual trip to the Tri-State this weekend, and local businesses are getting ready.

Between 5,000 and 6,000 people are expected to fill the Ford Center this weekend, most of whom aren't from the Tri-State.

Visitors come from all over for the Jehovah's Witness Summer Convention and organizers say it generates more than $3 million in direct expenditures for Evansville and Vanderburgh County.

Piece of Cake, a business just a few blocks from the Ford Center is preparing. Part-owner Lora Gossard says they're gearing up for the extra foot traffic.

"We will definitely make more than normal, have more available. But we do have a lot of backup. Most of our decorators can come up and help with anything we need them to do, so people just like to investigate new places," Gossard says.

The convention kicks off this Friday at the Ford Center in Downtown Evansville.
