Authorities have identified a Chicago man killed in what's been upgraded to a 27-vehicle pileup stemming from a Northern Nevada sandstorm.
Highway Patrol officials say 51-year-old Ravi Dyer was killed when his commercial truck rear-ended another one about 5 p.m. Monday on Interstate 80 near Winnemucca.
Troopers say there was zero visibility, prompting crashes in both directions. Traffic was still being diverted Tuesday morning.
Humboldt General Hospital spokeswoman Nicole Maher says 26 people were treated in the emergency room, including three who were later airlifted for treatment in much-larger Reno.
Images from the scene showed crunched-up vehicles, at least one overturned SUV and damaged semitrailers with their loads spilling onto the road.
Officials say the sandstorm might have come from high winds whipping up soil in recently cleared fields.
