Warrick County commissioners voted unanimously Monday in support of a new ordinance that would change a current smoking law.
The commissioners' approval means the ordinance will move forward for a second reading later this month.
Right now, smokers must be at least eight feet away from county-owned buildings to light up. The new ordinance would change that distance to 30 feet.
The change would not impact other buildings, like restaurants and bars; only county-owned property, like the Courthouse and Judicial Center.
Commissioners will take up the issue again on June 24.
