Harvard, Notre Dame, others sign on to 'Say Yes'

The "Say Yes to Education" program that sends public high school graduates to college for free has added five prestigious private universities to its list of destinations.

Say Yes founder George Weiss says in Syracuse Monday that Harvard, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Duke and Georgetown have committed to providing tuition scholarships to students from Say Yes chapters. The program has chapters in Buffalo, Syracuse, Philadelphia, Hartford and Harlem.

In New York, eligible high school graduates can go to any of the colleges and universities in the SUNY and CUNY systems or 29 private institutions. Students who've been in the public school system since kindergarten get a full ride, while the percentage of the scholarship decreases if a student has attended fewer years.

The program is funded through donations.
