Governor Pat Quinn has announced a $1.2 million road project to take place near Cairo, Illinois.
"This project will help traffic flow in Alexander County," said Quinn. "The project will also employ a number a construction workers, which will help the local economy."
The project includes patching and resurfacing on 3.5 miles of IL Route 3/US Route 51 from 9/10 mile west of Interstate 57 to 34th Street in Cairo.
E. T. Sinonds Construction submitted the winning bid of $1,293,726. The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the project.
"Capital construction projects are an essential investment in our roads, bridges an mass transit systems to create jobs and to get southern Illinois back on the right track," State Rep. Brandon Phelps (D-Harrisburg) said. "The Cairo resurfacing project will help put people to work, ease the road congestion that has plagued the area for some time now and provide safer roads for Illinois motorists."
