A Statesville man has been arrested after deputies say he sexually assaulted a young girl earlier this month.
The investigation started with a report filed on May 6 of a 4-year-old girl possibly being sexually assaulted, according to the news release from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
The child was interviewed and medically examined at the Dove House Child Advocacy Center.
The child was able to identify an individual who is a family friend as the person who had committed the assaults, according to the release.
Investigators were able to track down Van Allen Trimnal, 47, of Statesville.
Based upon the evidence and interviews, detectives was able to obtain seven felony warrants on the suspect, three counts of Sexual Offense with a Child, each a B1 Felony and four counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child, each a class F Felony, according to the release.
Trimnal was arrested without incident on Tuesday and was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and placed under $100,000 bond.
