In Posey County, an overnight fire destroyed a home belonging to a family of six. The mother and the father and two of their children were taken to the Deaconess hospital. The fire officials tell us the injuries appear to be minor.
The fire started around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at 10965 North Street in Cynthiana.
Smith Township and Poseyville firefighters responded as well as medics.
It took about an hour to get the fire under control. The house appears to be a total loss.
A neighbor, Beverly Bittner, slept through all of the commotion. When she woke up this morning, she was shocked to see the devastation across the street.
She spoke to the homeowner and the father of the four children. He told her that he had been awake when the fire started but that his wife was the first one to notice it. He also told her how he was able to get all of his children to safety.
"He had to break windows to get his oldest son out of the burning house," said Bittner. "I guess some of the little ones suffered burns and the older child and his father had cuts from the glass. The blaze went up pretty fast and right now they are just trying to figure out what exactly caused that to happen."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
