Despite rain, inaugural 5K event held in South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY, MA (WSHM) -

Nearly 200 runners braved the wet weather to take part in an inaugural "Run to Remember" 5K Saturday morning.

The participants began and ended the race at Buttery Brook Park.

Organizers of the event said the 5K was taking place rain or shine on Memorial Day weekend, as the money raised will go towards the town's Memorial Day parade committee.

It will allow the group to expand upon its work of honoring troops and veterans.

Part of the money raised Saturday will also go towards One Fund Boston as well as the Peter Krasnor scholarship fund.

Krasnor, who was the South Hadley High School athletic trainer, died suddenly last year.
