New K-9 helps Warrick Co. Interdiction team keep drugs off the street

Chandler's new K-9, Fado, saw big success on just his second day on the job.

Fado and his handler, Officer Matt Tevault, are a part of the Warrick County Interdiction Team.

The team worked today throughout Newburgh.

Officials say they pulled over a red sedan for a traffic violation early Thursday afternoon.

When officers ran the IDs, they were able to see a history of drug use in the vehicle.

Officer's used Fado to search the vehicle and he alerted that there were drugs inside.

That's when officers started their search and found marijuana and paraphernalia.

"The main goal is high volume traffic stops and we try to be proactive with our K-9s and narcotics detectives and use combination of information and use that to get drugs off the street," K-9 Officer Jonathan Scully said.

Detectives say the Interdiction Team members average about 14 arrests each time they get together.
