EPD releases video of teen driving in reverse through downtown

Posted: Updated:

Police have released new video of a teenage suspect driving backward in downtown Evansville last week.

Evansville police said the teenage driver was involved in an accident at Martin Luther King and Vine, then drove a stolen SUV in reverse while trying to flee the scene. He didn't get very far.

EPD posted the video on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

The video picked up with the Sgt. driving down Sycamore, approaching Martin Luther King.

The grey Xterra was reversing down MLK, almost hitting another car that had to come to a stop in the middle of the intersection.

The driver then passed that car and headed up Sycamore right past police headquarters and all of those police cars as the sirens were blaring.

That driver didn't go very far, turned and pulled over behind the courts building on 9th.

14 News was parked right across the street and had a great view as everything unfolded and the arrest was made.

Police said the video isn't from a dash camera, but through an app through a Droid phone mounted on the windshield or dash.
