ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - A 17-year-old high school student in Rockford will graduate with a perfect attendance record he's maintained since kindergarten.
The Rockford Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/12rdunV) that teenager Randall Simental is graduating this month from Jefferson High School. He describes his 13 years without missing a day of school as "awesome."
Keeping his record meant missing family gatherings, vacations and funerals. He says when he caught major illnesses, like chicken pox, it was conveniently during spring or winter breaks or long weekends.
He's an Illinois State Scholar and member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. He plans to attend Rock Valley College, then transfer to a 4-year college after getting an associate degree.
