University of Southern Indiana men's track and field senior Michael Jordan was named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Outdoor Athlete of the Year Monday.
Jordan earned his first region athlete of the year honor and he was also named all-region last week for a third straight year. The Indianapolis, Indiana, native has the fastest steeplechase time in NCAA Division II, and ninth quickest among Division I and II runners.
The former All-American broke his own school record in consecutive weeks this season and also garnered a United States Track & Field "B" Standard time after running 8 minutes, 42.36 seconds at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational.
Jordan was the winner of the Olympic Development Elite race in the at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
This is the third straight year a USI runner has earned Midwest Region Athlete of the Year. Former Screaming Eagles standout Dustin Emerick won the award in back-to-back seasons.
Jordan is now eligible for USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Year, which will be announced at NCAA National Championships May 23-25.
