Be a hero, donate blood at Red Cross's biggest blood drive of the summer

The summer months are usually when blood donations are at their lowest.

That's why Red Cross officials hope you will be a hero and donate at their Heroes Blood Drive today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Red Cross on Stockwell Rd.

Red Cross officials have a goal to collect more that 100 pints of blood.

That would meet the needs of 19 local hospitals.

They need all blood types, especially O Negative, A Negative and B Negative.

To sweeten the deal anyone who donates today will get a free T-shirt as well as a meal from Olive Garden and cupcakes.

Remember to bring your driver's license, two forms of ID. You must also weigh at least 110 pounds.

Then starting Thursday May 23 and going until May 31, in honor of Memorial Day, if you come in to give blood, you'll automatically be entered to win a $1,000 American Express gift card.

They will be giving away five of them.
