A Henderson driver was injured Sunday morning when her vehicle overturned.
KSP says 59-year-old Tara Coomes of Henderson pulled out of the Zion Country Store on KY 351 in Zion, and was traveling eastbound around 11:00 a.m. A witness at the scene told troopers that Coomes then made a u-turn on KY 351 at Larue Road, and started traveling westbound.
Coomes then accelerated at a high rate of speed, and lost control of her vehicle. Coomes' car then traveled off of the left side of the roadway and into the Zion Country Store's parking lot.
KSP says Coomes' car then struck Jeffery Lewis' pickup truck which was parked in front of the store. Lewis had just exited his vehicle and had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.
Barbara Lewis was in the passenger seat of the truck when the accident occurred. Neither were injured in the incident.
After striking Lewis' vehicle, Coomes' vehicle overturned and landed on its top.
Coomes sustained injuries to her right hand and head. She was transported to Henderson Methodist Hospital for evaluation, and then transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana due to her head injury. She is currently listed as in good condition.
Investigation at the scene revealed that Coomes have been driving under the influence of medication at the time of the accident.
State police say charges are pending.
