"Strong odor" leads to large drug bust on Evansville's south side

Posted: Updated:

Evansville police made a large drug bust Friday night.

It happened at a home in the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue near Garvin Street.

Police say officers were in the area and could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the home.

Officers then got a search warrant, and once inside the home, found what they call a substantial amount of marijuana.

"When officers can drive by and smell it and stop, hats off to them for getting out of the car and walking around," said EPD Sgt. Lonnie Rahm. "That's how we pick up on meth labs and a lot of pot grows."

Several people were arrested. The home was right next to Heavenly Day Care, so the suspects will face additional charges.
