Free airplane rides for Greenville kids

Posted: Updated:

Some kids in Muhlenberg County will be soaring above the clouds taking free plane rides.

The Muhlenberg County Airport and the EAA Young Eagles Program are taking the word free to new heights, with a unique opportunity to get their wings wet this weekend.

Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 1184 out of Greenville will be hosting free airplane rides for kids ages seven to 17 on May 18 at the Muhlenberg County Airport.

The event begins at 9:00 A.M., and in the past over a hundred children and their families have taken part. Kids who go for a flight, receive a certificate and free meal courtesy of the airport.

Pilot Danny Walker was more than happy to take me up in the air to demonstrate the safety of these aircraft. Walker also says this is an opportunity kids shouldn't pass up

"We take it for granted come out and get in the airplane and go," says Walker. "A lot of these kids look at it and think man I'd love to do that and never have the opportunity."
