Next time you run on the Greenway with a large group of people, you might have to pay.
The Greenway Advisory Board is asking the Parks Board to consider the proposal.
Parks Board officials say the money would go toward the maintenance of the passageway.
The fee would not apply to individuals or families using the pathway, but rather for large group events like a recent YMCA marathon where 1,900 runners participated.
"Most groups do a good job picking up trash after an event like that," said Denise Johnson, Director, Parks Board. Not all of our groups do that. Some users that are down on the riverfront or the Greenway we have trash afterwards, we have some damage that has to be taken care of," said Johnson.
At this point the Parks Board is only considering the proposal.
They have not decided how much the fee would be.
If it does end up being passed this year, it won't take effect until 2014.
