Tibetan monks traveling the U.S. stop by Evansville for several months

Posted: Updated:

Seven Tibetan Monks from a monastery in India are touring the U.S. and they are spending several months in the Evansville area.

Cecile Martin, owner of Bodyworks Massage Institute says the monks are currently making a sand mandala at her store. The monks have been working on it for the past four days, incorporating global symbols to illustrate peace and harmony.

The monks also plan to visit other cities, preaching the principles of peace and understanding.

"In our monastery, there are a lot of kids. So we need to help them for their education facilities," says Tenzin Dawa. "We need to show our Tibetan culture for all the world, and especially the peace and harmony to all these countries together."

The monks will be here in Evansville until the end of September.
