A motorcycle rider survived an early-morning crash that left the driver of a sport utility vehicle dead in Perrysburg Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Burdette E. Waxler, 67, of Rossford was driving southwest on State Route 65 when his 2012 Ford Escape veered left of center and struck Ricky L. Metzger, 57, of Monclova. Metzger was riding a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle and wearing a helmet.
Metzger was taken to a nearby hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries. Waxler, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Patrol says their investigation shows Wexler likely had a medical issue prior to the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
