Test results for the EVSC IREAD exams are in and they're good.
Scores improved a little more than 1 percent from last year, with a total of 81.8 percent of students passing.
According to state law, all third grade students must pass the exam in order to move on to fourth grade.
Velinda Stubbs, Director of Language Arts and Literacy Support, says the school system has incorporated the RTI model, which stands for "response to intervention model" which provides extra reading instruction for kids in kindergarten to third grade.
She says thanks to the new approach future test results should continuously improve.
"As we identify those children early that need that extra help, and we provide that help to them that those results will be compounding," said Stubbs. "Because we know the earlier that we identify children that are struggling the more likely we are to make a real difference in their academic outcomes," she said.
About 200 children didn't pass the test. They'll have a chance to attend summer classes and retake the exam later this summer.
