Police say the efforts to bring a standoff to a peaceful conclusion have ended in Evansville.

SWAT and negotiators were on scene of a standoff in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue near Jackson Wednesday afternoon for about four hours. Police say they now have 33-year-old John Cannon in custody.

Police tell us they found him in a crawl space in the home. Police used tear gas to eventually gain custody of Cannon.

The incident began when police arrived to serve Felony Criminal Confinement and Felony Battery warrants to Cannon. Police say they were familiar with the suspect, that's why the SWAT team was brought in to help serve the warrants.

Cannon was believed to have access to several high powered weapons and armor piercing ammunition.

Shortly after they arrived, authorities said the suspect released a woman they believed was his mother.
