The Owensboro School Board has named Nick Brake as the new Superintendent.
The announcement was made Monday evening at the conclusion of a special called meeting of the Owensboro Board of Education.
Brake is returning to the field of education after serving as President and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation for the past seven years and will assume his new duties July 1.
"I am excited about working with the dedicated staff in the Owensboro Public Schools. I appreciate the Board giving me the opportunity to be a part of the future of the Owensboro Public School District," says Brake.
Brake began his teaching career in 1991 at Daviess County High School and was the Director of Assessment, Research and Curriculum Development for the Daviess County Public School District from 1998 to February 2002.
He continued in education at the post-secondary level when he joined the Owensboro Community and Technical College's administrative team in 2002, focusing much of his time on vocational training and high school and college partnerships.
In February 2006, Brake left his position as OCTC Vice President to take the leadership position in the community's development organization.
Brake and his wife Candance have two children in the Owensboro Public Schools. He will replace retiring Superintendent Dr. Larry D. Vick.
