Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers across the Tri-State. It was a beautiful day to celebrate and many spent the day with their families outside.
Some mothers 14 News spoke with say indoors or out, they were just glad to spend the day with their children.
"It was a nice surprise," says Kathy Webster. "We're doing an end of the year event with our girl scouts."
Webster along with two of her four daughters and a girl scout troop spent her Mother's day at Mesker Park Zoo.
"It's a wonderful place and having Mother's Day out here is just fabulous," says Webster."
Assistant Animal Curator Deniis Charleton says for the past few years, Mesker has offered free admission to mothers on their special day.
"We get a good crowd of people coming in and just a lot of people who don't normally come to the zoo," says Charleton.
Families waited in line to get in Sunday morning and Charleton says the zoo saw a larger Sunday crowd than usual.
"We want to encourage that family atmosphere," says Charleton. "We also have mom and dads here at the zoo."
Those we talked with saying it's not just about what mothers spend the day doing, it's about whom they're spending the day with.
Charleton says the zoo also offers free admission to dads on Father's day.
