A much nicer day on Saturday for day two of the Owensboro Bar-B-Q Festival, the event that attracts thousands to Downtown Owensboro every year is wrapping up.
It was a much sunnier day on Saturday and that was key to the massive turnout for the festival. 14 News spoke to organizers, vendors, and several attendees who say outside of a few traffic jams, this year's festival was success.
The Owensboro Barbecue Festival had plenty of food, music, and sunshine on Saturday standing in stark contract to Friday's drizzle.
"They're telling me it's easily three or 4,000 people are out now," says Sharon NeSmith.
Festival Organizer NeSmith says Friday's turn-out was not nearly as large at Saturday's and as a result, vendors have been facing a feeding frenzy.
"It's actually picked up this year," says Marti Jones. "The last couple years it's been really slow. So we've been really busy today. We've been selling mutton and pork sandwiches, burgoo and drinks, talking to the public, and just having a good time."
Those we spoke to say the only negative aspect of this year's festival is that the downtown construction has created a few traffic jams, but they also say that's no excuse not to come over.
"It was a little slow, but once you start moving, you can find a place you can pay $5.00 to park. All the ones you don't pay, you know, they're all taken up already. It's just always a good time to have everybody there," says Billy Feldman.
NeSmith says the festival will continue until midnight on Saturday and she says an extensive cleaning crew will be there first thing in the morning to leave Downtown Owensboro looking spotless.
