Pennyrile open after cows escape overturned cattle truck


A cattle truck overturned along the Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkins County on Friday night.

Officials told 14 News that there were around 128 cows on the truck and around 20 were on the loose running around along the Pennyrile near the I69 and Western Kentucky Parkway Interchange between Nortonsville and Mortons Gap.

Kentucky State Police says 33-Year-old Lonnie Loy, of Columbia, KY was driving the cattle trailer northbound on the Pennyrile when the trailer dropped off the left shoulder of the roadway causing it to overturn on its side.

Some cow have been caught, but a few remain loose in the Mortons Gap area.

The roadway was closed for about eight hours overnight Friday. Loy was not injured during the collision.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said all lanes are back open again.
