On Sunday, hundreds of people are expected to fill the seats for Mt. Vernon's riverfront dedication. It was finished last winter, so now that it's warmed up they're geared up to start utilizing the space.
Mothers will be honored as well as service men and women. Wolfgang Orchestra and Chorus will also perform songs from each war (Civil through WWII). Stephen Fuelling, a councilman in Mt. Vernon, says so much time and effort has gone into this project so this is really monumental for them.
"This just brings Mt. Vernon to the quality of life that we deserve down here," says Fuelling. "These trails will go all the way to Brittlebank Park. This is a great moment in time because this is the first event held down here at the amphitheater and we expect many more events."
The kickoff event will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday afternoon. It's free and open to the public.
