Sheriff David Thompson says the results of a major marijuana bust should send a message to other pot growers in the area: Ohio County Sheriff's Office Detective Doug Ester loves his job.
Ester and the Ohio County Sheriff's Office recovered a number of items from inside and around the outside of a house in Hartford. A previous drug arrest led Ester to find 103 marijuana plants, 73 seedlings, eight guns, and drug paraphernalia.
"Potentially it would be $300,000 worth of marijuana that would have been produced out of these things had they been given the chance to mature," Ester said.
The Ohio County Sheriff's Office says this is the time of year when people grow marijuana outside.
Sheriff David Thompson hopes this recovery sends a message to growers that the sheriff's office is looking for marijuana and they aren't going to tolerate it.
"We're going to come find it," Thompson said. "We are very aggressive trying to find these drugs and the marijuana plants that are being grown in our county."
Leonard and Karen Bratcher were charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Getting the drugs out of the county is why Ester loves his job. "I feel like I am helping the community," he said. "I feel like I'm taking an active role in trying to make this a better place to live and a safer place to live."
Ester says he credits team work between the two offices for the recovery of the items and arrests.
