Gov. Beshear announced upgrade for Domtar Paper Company in Hancock County

HAWESVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announced an upgrade to a large Hancock County Employer.

Domtar Paper Company in Hawesville plans on upgrading existing equipment at their facility which will allow them to keep more than 450 jobs. The company plans on investing $10-million to construct a new conveyor system which will allow the company to transport its product directly between the plant and the nearby Ohio River.

The system will lower operating expenses and reduce greenhouse gases. The company says the investment will benefit the environment, the company, and the community.

"We would not be here without the community, and the community tends to do a great job supporting us and we look for a variety of ways to partner with the community and give back as well," says Steve Henry, Hawesville Mill's general manager.

Domtar also received a little less than $300,000 in tax incentives from the state for their investment.
