Deaconess Nurse Maggie Tharp received the for Advancement in the Profession Award.
Deaconess Hospital recognized several nurses who stand out as role models and educators in their profession.
Maggie Tharp received the award for Advancement in the Profession.
Tharp is the Clinical Educator for Surgical Services and rotates through the operating room each week. She said she loves her job because there's something new everyday.
When Tharp started at Deaconess more than 20 years ago, she had an experience in the operating room that she said reaffirmed her decision to devote her life to nursing.
"I was brand new to the operating room, in fact I was so brand new, I was stuck in the corner to observe, unfortunately this patient had a heart attack during surgery, and the compassion that everybody in the operating room felt for that patient was amazing and that's one of the reasons I came," Tharp said.
Eight nurses from the three Deaconess Hospitals were honored this year. The women were awarded based on personal nominations from their co-workers.
