Carnival cruise passengers believed to have fallen overboard

A search and rescue operation is underway off the Australian coast for two people missing from a cruise ship.

The Carnival Spirit, operated by Carnival Cruise Lines, contacted police after a search of the ship failed to find a man and a woman. It docked Thursday in Sydney at the end of a ten-day journey.

The two people missing people are believed to have fallen overboard. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

A search was ordered around 60 miles off the coast of central New South Wales.
