A Vanderburgh County man is facing charges after calling Time Warner and saying someone's been shot in his home.

The Indiana State Police received a call from the Time Warner Call Center in Louisville, Kentucky stating that they received a call from an address on Allens Lane in Evansville, where a man told the cable company that someone in his house had been shot and that he needed deputies.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says they also received secondary information that a text was sent from a resident of the address that he was shot.

When authorities arrived at the scene in the 3000 block of Allens Lane, 48-year-old Kent Stephens, who had made the call, would not come out of the house.

Finally after about 45 minutes of negotiations with a crisis negotiator, Stephen did come out with his hands up. He then apparently decided to go back in, deputies tased him, and took him into custody.

Sheriff's deputies say they went through Stephen's house to make sure no one had been hurt. Investigation found that there was not a shooting and that the call and text had been fabricated.

Stephens is facing charges of disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, and false informing.
