HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

A man is arrested on drunk driving charges in Hopkins County after a wreck involving a dirt bike on Monday.

Authorities say deputies from the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to "Truck v. Dirt bike" traffic collision at 13435 Beulah Road.

Officials say upon arrival, it was discovered that Zack Skimehorn was operating a 1989 Nissan truck on Beulah Road and, utilizing a rope, was pulling 25-year-old Daniel Bean on an off-road dirt bike in an attempt to get the dirt bike to start.

Skimehorn and Bean had traveled west on Beulah Road, had slowed, and were attempting to pull in to the driveway of 13435 Beulah Road.

Deputies say 38-year-old Jimmie Patterson, of Dawson Springs, KY, was operating his 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck east on Beulah Road.  As Patterson traveled over a hill, he observed Skimehorn's Nissan truck slowly pulling in to the driveway.  Patterson had to swerve left to avoid striking the Nissan truck.  When he did so, deputies say he struck the dirt bike being operated by Bean.

Authorities say upon further investigation, it was discovered that Patterson was impaired at the time the collision occurred.

Officials say Patterson was placed under arrest and transported him to Baptist Hospital by deputies of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, treated and released to those deputies, and then lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.  Patterson was charged with one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs/Etc. (Aggravated)-1st offense.

Daniel Bean was initially transported to Baptist Hospital by Med Center Ambulance Service, but then was later flown to St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana where he is currently listed in "fair" condition.

The Hopkins County Sheriff Office was assisted at the scene by the Richland Fire Department and the Kentucky State Police.
