"Berry" good news for Evansville plastics company

Berry Plastics Group, Inc. (NYSE: BERY) is proud to announce that it recently received three Excellence in Flexography Awards from the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), including the organization's 2013 Technical Innovation Award for the Company's Indirect Flexo (IDF) printing process.

"We are deeply honored to receive not only the 2013 Technical Innovation Award, but also receive a Bronze and Silver award from the FTA which is such a highly-respected industry organization," said Jennye Scott, Vice President of Creative Services at Berry Plastics.

Founded in 1958, the FTA is the world's leading professional society dedicated to the advancement of the flexographic printing industry.

Flexographic printing uses inked flexible printing plates, with slightly raised images, that are placed on a rotating cylinder to transfer an image to a substrate, such as plastic used in packaging.

Developed as an alternative to dry offset printing, IDF is a patent pending process which allows Berry Plastics to produce excellent photographic quality graphics on white, clear, and colored substrates.

The exceptional graphic quality is achieved through utilization of high-res digital plate imaging and true CMYK flexographic process, allowing for softer edges, better highlights, and the ability to replicate the full-color spectrum. In addition, the IDF process allows for this high-end printing to occur directly on the injection or thermoform part by compensating for the angle between the top and the bottom of the cup or container.

"Berry Plastics is the only provider in North America of the unique IDF printing process," added Scott.

"We are extremely excited by the limitless opportunities that can be produced by utilizing IDF.

The printed results are sophisticated graphics which provide distinctive and eye-catching products for our customers."

Berry Plastics was also awarded a Silver in the Narrow Web Screen Metalized category for its label produced for the Gillette Fusion ProGlide.

In addition, the Company earned a Bronze in the Narrow Web Screen Film category for its label produced for Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer.
