Ind. Excise Officers seize nearly $10,000 in alleged gambling proceeds

Posted: Updated:

Indiana State Excise Police officers seized nearly $10,000 and cited two southern Indiana bars located along the Ohio River Saturday on the preliminary administrative charges of promoting professional gambling.

While working enforcement details related to the Kentucky Derby, Excise Officers say they investigated alleged illegal wagering operations taking place at the Riverbottom Inn located in Maukport and Resch's Tavern located in Clarkville. Resch's Tavern was also cited for allegedly allowing alcoholic beverages to be carried in and out of the premise.

The Indiana State Excise Police say they are continuing their investigation into the alleged illegal activity to determine whether potential criminal charges will be filed.

As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana's Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.
